As we strolled down the Wellington (NZ) waterfront area around the Frank Kitts park after we had a dinner with a couple of friends, we saw these two performers practicing torch dancing or “fire spinner”. They were moving fluidly, no movement was sharp. It was dark all around, you barely able to see themselves, but the torch’s fire was so yellow and bright. I was enchanted by the beauty of this whirling fire in the dark. This long-exposure picture captures my memory of that beautiful night. I’m easily enchanted by brightness in the dark night sky. From the stars, city lights, fireworks, camp fire, even candle lights. What about you? Related posts by others:

Very cool. I love twinkling lights, lanterns, and candles too… I heard you can take lessons to become a fire dancer. Wouldn’t that be a great moonlighting job?

Fire dance lessons sounds interesting! Maybe if I can fire-dance, I can make money performing on the streets
Although probably due to my clumsiness level, people might sue me because I accidentally burn stuff around me?
Poi, Crazy stuff isn’t it? I’d imagine they’ve burned themselves a few times while practicing. Ow!

Heh, That’s what I imagine if I do that! You also have to trust the person that perform together with you. In this one, one of them actually dropped the torch several times
When I was in Paris a few years ago, there were people doing this in front of Notre Dame. Lots of fun to watch, though one of them was obviously still learning and made me rather nervous.

Haha, one of this guy in the photo also dropped the torch, a lot! But they were doing so well when I took this photo. It must be great to see this with Notre Dame setting.
I love fire spinning, which I got into in Australia, and hope to enjoy the world round. I just found a fire-spinner here in New Zealand…hopefully we’ll be spinning in just a few days!

Hi Nora, I just checked your article, so cool!! You are lucky you can fire dance. Next time I see fire dancers, I will ask them maybe they can teach me
Hopefully you will be fire dancing soon! What’s NZ city you are in right now?
Btw, I’m adding a link to your story in my article under section called “Related Posts by Others“. It’s my new program, displaying related posts by other travelers, to see what other traveler’s take on it.
Aw I remember those nights. Nice photo, wish I could tell who it was though, because I definitely know them
Aww! You were there? I wish I had their clear head shot, but it was so dark and I don’t want to ruin their practice with flash!
